Should I Have An Automatic Divers Watch Or A Quartz Divers Watch?

This is one of the key issues in the watch world. What is the difference and which one is better? These questions will be answered in this article so read on and find out the answers to your queries.

Quartz watches swept the mechanical watch industry into near submission in the late 1970’s and 80’s. Since Hamilton created the first electric watch, the Ventura, in the late 1950’s the battery or Quartz watch revolution changed the way in which people view the time. Before Quartz watches it was the part of the daily routine to reset your watch by the TV or radio, the Quartz watch accuracy and longevity of charge made this little routine a thing of the past. Quartz watches have become so ingrained in peoples everyday lives, that automatic watches almost became a distant memory. Brands like Omega, Tissot, and Oris tried to fight head on with the Japanese and American Quartz watch manufacturers such as Casio and Timex, but the late 90’s and in the 00’s the Swiss watch companies have fought back against the Quartz revolution. TSwiss watch companies are creating luxury watches, quality timepieces that are desirable and aspirational to everyone who see them.

But as a dive watch, what is the difference between a cheap quartz dive watch and a Swiss automatic dive watch? For instance what is the difference between a Timex Expedition Diver and an Oris Pro Diver, other than the obvious £2200 price difference? They both offer the wearer the same basic dive functionality on the surface but is there more to it that makes the automatic watches so much more expensive? Here are some key differences between the automatic watch and the quartz watch.

1.       The Timex Expedition Diver timekeeping will be more accurate that the Oris Divers watch over a period of 1 month. The reason for this is that the Timex watch uses battery power to charge a capacitor which then powers the movement of the watch, where as an automatic watch uses motion to charge a spring which the releases energy to the watch movement. A top quality automatic watch movement has a margin of error of + or – 1 second per day compared with a Quartz watch variance which is less than  1  second per year. Should this be the same?

2.       The Oris watch uses Swiss mechanical engineering to produce each movement by hand and every movement is quality tested before it can be dispatched to retailers and sold to the general public. The Timex is mass produced in a factory in China and one watch in every 100 units are tested.

3.       All of the Swiss manufacturers like Oris use a unique serial number which allows the watch to be identified and makes it possible to trace every watch to the point of sale and manufacture. Companies like Timex and Casio do not provide unique serial numbers due to the mass quantities which are created of each item daily.

4.       The automatic watch only requires servicing every 3 to 5 years. The Quartz watch will need a new battery every 2 to 5 years depending on the use of its functions.

5.       The automatic watch will stop and need manually re-setting if it is left off the wrist for any longer than 40 hours. The Quartz watch will continue to work until the battery fails or there is a mechanical fault.

6.       There are minimal gadgets on the mechanical watch. There will be no onboard dive computer or dive recording facility, these functions can be found on the Quartz watches companies like Casio, Citizen and Tissot make watches which have the ability to recorded data from your dives to use at a later date.

The key thing to think about is. Are you buying your divers watch to be a functional addition to your diving kit bag, to give you diving data without having to buy a dive computer? If yes then you need to look for a digital dive watch.

Or are you someone who likes diving but wants a diver’s watch that is classic and timeless and can be worn outside of your diving hobby? If it is yes to this question well an automatic divers watch would do the job fantastically for you.

Rotary Watches take a step back in History

The Rotary name has built up over the last 103 years and has a reputation for building high quality, affordable watches for the masses. 2008 is a year that is set to see Rotary watches take a step back in time to celebrate the history of its company and to recreate some of the watch designs that have made a special place in the publics hearts.

Over the past 103 years there have been, as in all other industries, large numbers of advancements in the technology used to power the watches that we wear today and to create the metals that are used to house the movements that power these watches. This new range of watches quite aptly named the Heritage range by Rotary, aims to put all of these new advancements into watch designs of by gone eras. This unique blend of past and present by Rotary will celebrate the history of the company and will, they hope, engage the consumer enough to buy into this trip down memory lane. They also hope that this will place the Rotary brand into the minds of the younger generation who have become so familiar with other brands such as D&G, Fossil and Guess.

In keeping with the theme of Heritage, Rotary has also launched a small selection of automatic men’s watches all of which adhere to the Heritage look and style. Rotary have revisited some of the old favourite designs from the 60’s and 70’s like the moon phase dial found in the GS02377/01. Rotary have also recreated the timeless skeleton dial which can be seen in the GS02517/21 which really does owe a lot of its design and style to classical watches of the past. The Classical heritage look continues throughout the Rotary watch range.

Rotary have chosen one of the best times to re-introduce some of these old time classics. Retro fashion is bang on trend this year with smart casual being the look to go for. The classical nature of the Rotary brand as well as the look of these heritage watches is what will drive fashion watch followers to Rotary over the next year. Rotary’s keen pricing will also make many fashion followers much more accepting of wearing a Rotary watch rather than choosing to buy from one of their competitors. Rotary have also launched a range of quartz Heritage watches, the majority of the new watches are aimed at the men’s watch market. Watches likes of the new GS02426/09 are style right out of the 1950’s and are perfect for 2010 fashion trends. Rotary also added a brand new range of chronograph watches like the GS90020/02 which again looks like it has come straight of a 1950’s movie.

2010 looks to have been a renaissance year for the Rotary watch brand. Rotary watches had been one of the biggest losers in the battle against the designer watch companies, losing market position and losing ground on its traditional rivals such as Tissot and Seiko. But this seasons Geek Chic fashion trend, some may say luckily coincided with Rotary watches expansion of a Heritage range has once more placed Rotary watches back on the wrists of both younger and older generations alike. Finally Rotary watch designers have tuned into to what not only the younger generation want but what Rotary watches traditional market wants and this can only be good news for the Rotary watch company this Christmas.

Swiss Watch Company Tissot Say goodbye To PR50

Last Days of the PR50

2010 has been a year of change. The first coalition government was formed in the UK for over 50 years, a volcano closed European airspace for 6 days and Britain apparently officially clawed its way out of the longest recession since the depression.

It has also been a year of change for Tissot watches. Tissot have built their reputation on the quality and affordability of the watches they produce. This once classic watch brand has morphed into one of the leading sports watch brands in the market place. At the heart of this change has been the Tissot T-Touch range of watches. The tactile multi-functioning sports watch has created a niche in the market which has led to the growth of the Tissot brand in the UK and around the rest of the world. New generations of the T-Touch such as the T-Touch Expert and the Sea Touch have all spawned over the past year from the original Tissot T-Touch.

With such massive changes in brand image from a classic watch brand to a sports watch brand, there must be some casualties in the ranges of watches that Tissot make and this year the first casualty was announced by the watch giant. The PR50, one of the most beloved watches in the Tissot range for over 30 years now, is being fazed out of production. It was announced by Tissot at the Basel watch fair demonstrating that the Tissot company is serious about change for the brand. The PR50 has been a huge part of Tissot’s watch range for an incredible amount of years and over time, the PR50 has had facelift’s to keep up with technological advancements and fashion changes. The PR50, as a watch range, catered for everyone from those who simply wanted a classic plain watch, to others who wanted specialist analogue sports watches. With 58 watches in the range it was possible for everyone to find a watch that they were looking for. Some of Tissot’s most popular watches came from the PR50 range such as; the PR50 Nascar and the Men’s PR50 Seven digital analogue crossover watch.

The New PR100 An Even Better Looking Tissot Watch

But wait a moment, before you go out and try to buy up the world’s remaining supply of PR50,  watches Tissot have only signalled the end of the classic PR50 or the basic model PR50, the Nascar and PR50 Seven. However, this doesn’t mean that the rest of the Tissot PR50 series are safe from the axe, it just means that they have avoided this for the time bei

ng. So for those who are still biding their time to buy themselves a classic starter model PR50, you better be quick because they won’t be around for much longer. Despite this loss, Tissot have launched a new replacement for the PR50; the new PR100 which owes much of its looks to its predecessor the PR50. The PR100 though has a much higher specification than the PR50 and it is easy to see why Tissot have decided to cancel the PR50 once people see the new PR100 model. The PR100 has a much larger dial, a new 100 meter water resistance and a much changed bracelet which is sure to make people want to upgrade from the old PR50 to the new PR100.
It is sad to see the end of the PR50 but with the new PR100 it is easy to see why it was time for Tissot to move on from an old favourite and embrace the new generation of Tissot’s classic style.

Lovelinks could help to buy your way out of the dog house

New Lovelinks advertWhen a man finds himself confined to the dog house often the only way back into the marital bed is via the well-trodden path to the florists.

Whether the wrong-doing is on an epic scale of a certain American golfer, or merely a failure to say “no” when asked whether her bum looked big in that, a gift is often the first step to repairing the damage.

Okay, so a box of chocolates or bunch of roses is hardly likely to get Mrs Woods back onside: “Sorry love I bedded another cocktail waitress, here, have a Milk Tray.”

But a gift at least marks the start of man’s journey back up the garden path and into her arms.

However, be warned, modern woman may be looking for a more thoughtful gift to dowse her fiery rage than a limp bouquet of garage-bought daffodils. Meanwhile a box of chocolates may be construed as impersonal or perhaps a symbol of guilt – and an unhealthy one at that.

So, there are obvious alternatives such as designer watches or jewellery – but this avenue can be fraught with danger. Big investment in shiny things does not always equal forgiveness but at least buying something that suits your partner’s tastes will help ease the route back into the good books.

A watch can be a very personal item and choosing the right style is of paramount importance. The brand and colour of designer watch are crucial decisions. The safest - and potentially most effective option - is a charm bracelet. Lovelinks bracelets and necklaces allow you to completely personalise a piece of jewellery to show your other half that a serious degree of thought has gone into your make-up olive branch.

After selecting from a range of bracelets and necklaces, you can then choose which links to add to them. Letters spelling out SORRY may not be so subtle, while IT WON’T HAPPEN AGAIN is unlikely to fit around her wrist. But how about pendants reflecting her zodiac sign, hobbies and interests or spelling out their favourite song lyric.

Lovelinks also allows customers to match their moods with a multitude of colours. If you are reading this now, your partner’s mood is likely to be anger. So why not change that with some calming cool blues?

Because of the bespoke nature of Lovelinks, the risk of your spouse or girlfriend not liking her gift is extremely minimal. Recent years have shown celebrities all over the world clamour for beaded jewellery and the pace of its popularity growth has been nothing short of phenomenal, and Lovelinks have been at the heart of this designer jewellery phenomenon.

If in future you again find yourself trudging with your tail between your legs back to the doghouse, you can always buy your way back out with new links for your original Lovelinks purchase.

Oris, are they more than just a Dive watch specialist?

The Pro Diver During the last year, dive watches have become fashionable again with brands like Toy Watch and Ice-Watch pushing the fashion trend for this look. But what about the real diving watch companies like Oris, do they produce anything else and more importantly, are they any good?

Oris are one of the leading Swiss watch brands for creating functional diving watches, examples of these watches range from the Pro Diver to the Dive Regulateur Meistertaucher . Oris make diving watches that can be used in the most difficult of diving situations. Every Oris dive watch offers water resistance at a minimum level of 300 meters and it is difficult to find competitors that offer such great specification for the diving application of a watch. However, Oris are much more than just a dive watch specialist.

Oris are a Swiss watch brand who have been making watches for more than 80 years. Oris watches were originally like so many watch brands; a watch company who specialised in making service watches for airforces all over the world. The diving watch affiliation came much later in the company’s history with the signature of the free diving legend Carlos Costa. One of the biggest moves by Oris during the last 10 years was the move to buy the company back from the all concurring LVMH group and return the company back to a single company making and designing its watches from start to finish. Oris soon re-invented itself abolishing its Quartz collection and pushing Oris as a watch company into a different class of watch manufacture.

The Oris brand has grown from strength to strength adding sports sponsorship to build the brand awareness of Oris as a sports watch manufacturer. Oris are the timekeepers for F1 team Williams Cosworth. Oris have built specific watches for the pit crew of the Williams team and they have created a new watch every season for each of the Williams drivers. There is now a whole range of Williams watches by Oris which are now some of the most popular sports watches that Oris have ever made. This range of watches has cemented Oris as a sports watch manufacturer rather than simply just a dive watch specialist. Oris though, are not only a sports watch manufacturer. They also have a number of classic collections which are all powered by automatic movements. The Big Crown and the Classic range start from as little as £400 and offer a wide section of case sizes and styles. The Big Crown is one of the most popular ranges with is retro 1950’s look and its domed plexi glass.

Oris are much more than Carlos Costa diving watch and the Pro Diver. As the most popular Oris watches ever made it is true that many people will know the Oris watch brand as a dive specialist brand but they are so much more 2010 looks to be a big year for the Swiss company.

Nomination jewellery are nominated for 2 big awards from Company Magazine for 2010

Nomination jewellery is one of the oldest companies in this newly renovated charm market place. Read on about how Nomination works and how Nomination has finally been recognised by one of the big fashion Magazines for its work in fashion.

Fashion is fickle, one minute a style or a product can be on everyone’s most wanted list and the next it is sitting in the bargain bin at a super market checkout. The jewellery world fashion has tended to be a little more forgiving, styles of jewellery generally take years to fade out rather than a number of weeks. But the advent of fashion jewellery from the Couture fashion houses as well as affordable fashion jewellery from the high street from companies such as; Dorothy Perkins and Topshop, it is evident that the jewellery world is a changing.

For many companies and jewellers alike it has been hard to change the mind set of their companies. Consumers are looking for jewellery that is seasonal, jewellery that will accessorize this season’s dress or t-shirt, rather than a piece of jewellery that will be a timeless classic.

Companies such as Topshop, Claire’s Accessories and Accessorize have all been at the forefront of change, making jewellery more of an accessory than a luxury. Many of the old jewellery companies have struggled to keep up with the prices that these companies charge for their costume jewellery and the speed with which they change their styles. 2010 though is the year that the jewellery manufacturers and jewellery retailers have fought back. Finally, jewellery manufacturers now have a concept that rivals that of the affordable fashion market. This concept is not a new one and your Gran or perhaps even your mother probably still have theirs hidden away in a jewellery box. This concept is the charm bracelet.

But the world no longer needs charm bracelets l hear you say. Well, this is the charm bracelet for the new decade. Although many of these companies have been around for over 30 years, so it is not really a new concept, the idea has finally hit a cord with women everywhere in 2010. Nomination are one of the biggest companies in this new charm market and this once small time company from Florence, Italy, have finally been recognised by the fashionistas at Company magazine for their daring new take on the charm bracelet. Nomination has been nominated for 2 awards by the editors of Company magazine for 2010. They have been nominated for Best Accessory and Best Fashion Retailer. This is a massive step forwards for a company like Nomination as this shows that the product that they have been building for over 30 years is now an important part of women’s fashion. The simple idea behind the bracelet is that once a customer has purchased the base bracelet or charm carrier, the customer will then fill the bracelet with any number of charms from the extensive range that Nomination provide.

There are over 500 charms to choose from and unlike a traditional charm bracelet customers can add or remove the charms until their hearts content without the need of a soldering iron and a polishing wheel. But that is not all Nomination has to offer. The bracelets and charms come in four sizes so whether it is big jewellery or small jewellery you require, there is a Nomination bracelet for every customer. Once a bracelet is filled up with charms there is no need to stop collecting as the new Nomination watches now also have the same expanding bracelet attachment and as long as the customer chooses the right size of watch, the charms from the bracelet can be interchanged with the charms in the watch.

The nomination for these awards is a massive achievement for a jewellery company like Nomination. It proves to all of the sceptics out there that the charm bracelet is back, bigger than ever and this charm jewellery is here to stay and Nomination are the leaders in this brand new market place.
